The Studio

Situated on a tranquil rural property in the beautiful Comox Valley, we respectfully acknowledge that the land we gather on is on the Unceded Traditional Territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land. Loam is an inclusive space dedicated to helping people find and express their creativity.

The studio is equipped with 12 Shimpoo VL-Lite wheels, a slab roller, wall mounted extruder, multiple work tables, molds, various tools for decorating, throwing, trimming and hand building. We make all our own dipping glazes and coloured slips. We have two kilns for firing studio work.

About Us

After more than 12 years as organic vegetable farmers in the Lower Mainland, Gemma and Doug had had enough of the intensity of living in the city and dreamed of a more nature filled life; funny for two people working the land as a living. In 2024, they moved to the Comox Valley, drawn by the usual suspects of mountains, forests, ocean, and promise of an engaging community. Unable to find a pottery class to take themselves, they decided that they should start their own studio and create a space for more people to connect, create and learn. Their love of the land, interest in creating spaces for people to enjoy and unwind, and desire to live a life with a lighter impact all come together to form the foundation of Loam.
