Our monthly membership is geared towards hobby potters who have taken 2 or more classes with Loam or have over a year’s experience in another studio. If you’re looking to explore pottery on your own schedule and be part of a welcoming and inclusive community space, this is a wonderful opportunity.

The Details

For potters looking for a space to create on their own schedule and without instruction. Access is 7 days a week, 8am-9pm.

When a class is taking place, members are still able to use the studio, however, there will be less space available, we strongly encourage members to plan their visits accordingly. Membership is $220/month plus tax.

Prerequisites

Members should be confident in all parts of the pottery-making process, including: wedging, cleaning, glazing and properly cleaning glaze pieces before they go into the kiln. A common benchmark for sufficient experience is the successful completion of two (2) 6-8 week hand-building or wheel classes within the last one to two (1-2) years.

If a member’s experience is assessed as insufficient, they will be required to enroll in a class offered by Loam Pottery.
Individuals uncertain of their qualification level are advised to contact the studio directly for consultation.

Members must be 18+. Not sure if you have enough experience? Send us an email and we’re happy to discuss if this is the right fit for you.

Orientations

You will need to take a studio orientation before you can start using the studio. Studio orientations can be schedule by emailing info@heyloam.ca once you have registered and paid for your membership. Glaze orientations must be taken before you can use the studio glaze station.

Clay

A note about clay! You can purchase clay through our website (pick-up in person) or at the studio. If you would like to bring your own clay to use, you will need to speak with us first to ensure it is safe to use in the studio. We will charge a $22 fee per bag to cover the cost of reclaim, firings and tech time. All clay needs to be for cone 6 firings.

If you are interested in a clay that we do not offer currently, feel free to let us know and we can see about bringing it in in the future. We are currently using plainsman clay.

Glazes

Glaze orientations are held as needed. We have a range of custom made and pre-made glazes available to members and students. If you want to purchase and bring your own glaze into the studio you are welcome to do so, before you can use it on your pieces we will ask you to talk with one of our staff about it’s suitability and to make a test tile. We need to ensure all glazes will meet our firing standards. All firings are to cone 6.

Cancellation Policy

You are welcome to cancel your membership at any time, you will be charged the full month you have already paid for, we do not do pro-rated cancellation refunds. Please make sure to cancel your membership at least 1 week before your renewal date. Membership will auto renew each month at the start of the month.
